Describe the political organization the Akamba in the 19th century.

- They had a decentralized political system. The homestead (Musyi) was the smallest political unit.
- Several related families formed a wider territorial political unit the clan.
- The clan was the main political unit with a council
of elders, recreation ground, war leader and a place of worship.
- Above the clan there was a bigger political unit called Kivalo ruled by a council of elders calked Atumia Ma Kivalo.
- The Akamba had council of elders ranked according to seniority from junior -Anake to medium elders called Nthele to most senior elder called Atumia Ma Ithembo.
- The senior most elders were highly respected considered virtually clean arid mainly performed religious activities.
- The Akamba did not have institutional age grades however age grades and sets were common to all in the community. The young men provided warriors when needed.
