Discuss the economic organization of the Ameru in the 19th century.

- Crop cultivation -they grew different types of crops e.g. millet, peas, black beans and miraa.
- Engaged in livestock farming where they kept cattle, sheep and goats. The animals provided milk meat, skins and were used to pay dowry.
- They traded with their neighbours the Akamba Aembu and Mbeere.
- Iron working. They made iron implements like knives, spears and arrow head.
- Hunting and gathering. They hunted wild animal and gathered wild fruits and
herbs to supplement their diet.
- Pottery, basketry and wearing -they practiced art of making pots and baskets which they used or sold in trade.
