In an investigation a student extracted three pairs of pawpaw cylinders using a cork borer. The cylinders were cut back to 50mm length and placed in a beaker containing a solution. The results after 40 minutes were as shown in the table below.

(b) What would be a suitable control set up for the investigation?

- The cylinder increased in length and felt hard or stiff or firm because they were placed in hypotonic solution
compared to cytoplasm of pawpaw cell, the cell gained water by osmosis, become turgid hence tissue become firm and the cylinder increase in size.

Use boiled pawpaw cylinder. Since the are
dead, they will not gain water by osmosis
