- They are universal/inalienable. They apply equally to everyone by virtue of being human
beings.
-They are indivisible. All rights are important and a person cannot be denied a
given right because they are less important.
- They are inter-dependent, all rights complement each other.
- Human rights-are inherent. Human rights are inherited from birth and are not
acquired through human development.
- Human rights have limitation. When people fail to honour other people's
rights some limitations can be put on the individuals rights.
- Human rights can be suspended/denied/derogated if circumstances dictate e.g. during war, state of emergency, outbreak of contagious diseases, etc
