-Inadequate funds for administration it was expensive to use direct rule.
- Lack of enough personnel for administration.
-To avoid African resistance against their rule.
-The policy had succeeded in other areas e.g. India and Uganda.
-To appease traditional rulers by allowing them to continue ruling.
-They were more concerned with their Indian colony which was more profitable than Kenya.
