Describe the structure of the British indirect rule in Northern Nigeria.

-At the top of the hierarchy was the Governor who was based in Lagos. He was in charge of the whole colony of Nigeria.
-Below the Governor was the resident/provincial commissioner who was in charge of the province. The resident presided over protectorate courts.
-Each province was further into districts which were administered by a European district officer. He/she gave guidance in local govern instructions on national issues.
-Below the district officer African chiefs/Fulani Emits. They were put in-charge of
native authorities and were answerable to the district officer. They maintained law and order areas.
-Below the chiefs were village headmen who were in-charge of sub-locations. They resolved minor disputes and also maintained law and order.
