Discuss the factors which led to the growth of urban centers during the colonial period in Kenya.

- Development of Agriculture. Towns came up as marketing centers for agricultural produce e.g. Nyahururu, Eldoret, Nakuru.
- Establishment of Agro- based industries which attracted many people seeking for employment
opportunities. This made those areas grows e.g. Ruiru, Thika, Athi river.
- Mining activities also attracted many people who wanted to engage in mining. This made these areas to grow into turns e.g. Magadi, Kakamega etc.
- Caravan routes that were used by traders such as IBEAC officials stimulated the growth of towns along such routes.
- Rural -urban, migration led to high influx of Africans –from rural areas to urban areas which led to their development into towns.
