Explain the challenges facing the Judiciary in Kenya.

- Corruption in the judiciary has eroded the public's confidence on the protection of their rights and freedoms by the judiciary.
- Incompetence of some judges leading to poor and inconsistent judgments.
- Lack of adequate judicial personnel’s e.g. judges, magistrates, clerks etc. This has led to backlog of cases in courts.
-Lack of adequate equipment’s and facilities such as chairs, libraries,
offices etc. for judicial officers.
- Lack of adequate funds to cater for its needs. This sometimes undermines the independence of the judiciary.
- Lack of continuous legal education and training of judicial officers. Thus they lack knowledge on the latest developments in law and its practice.
-Lack of education on judicial affairs and ignorance of legal rights among the public.
- Information on the judiciary is a preserve of a few. It has not been made available to the general
public.
- Fees charged by the courts are very high limiting public access the courts by poor Kenyans.
