-The spiracle has a muscular valve; that controls its opening; it has hairs; to trap dust;
-The trachea has rings/ spiral bands of chitin; to keep it open; and prevent it from collapsing during breathing;
-The tracheoles are many/ numerous; to increase surface area for gaseous exchange;
-Tracheoles are moist; to dissolve gases allowing them diffuse in solution form;
-Tracheoles walls are thin; reducing the distance hence faster diffusion of gases;
-Tracheoles lack chitin; to provide a large surface area for gaseous exchange and make them thin; to reduce the distance for diffusion of respiratory gases;
