Explain the factors which affect the rate of breathing in humans.
Answer:
-Exercise; vigorous physical activity increase the rate of breathing so as to increase amount of oxygen and eliminate extra carbon (IV) oxide produced during respiration;
-Emotions; emotions e.g. fear, anxiety, anger and fright increase production of adrenaline which increases general metabolism hence increasing the rate of breathing;
-Health; disease increases metabolic rate leading to higher rate of breathing;
-Age: Young people are actively growing hence have higher demand of oxygen hence have faster rate of breathing.
-Temperature; higher temperature increases the rate of breathing;
-Altitude; the rate of breathing increases with increase in altitude because the atmospheric pressure/ amount of oxygen decreases with increase in altitude;
