Using relevant examples describe the methods of asexual reproduction.
Answer:
a)Binary fission in Amoeba;
-The first step in binary fission is molecular division where there is internal reorganization of the molecules necessary for structural construction; the molecules are re-aggregated and utilized in the formation of the new cell; the nucleus undergoes mitotic division to give rise to two nuclei with the same number of chromosomes; the cytoplasm then starts dividing into two cells which separate from each other;
b)Budding in yeast / saccharomyces/ schizosaccharomyces;
-Yeast is a fungus which reproduces asexually; by budding. The parent cell forms an outgrowth/ projection/ bud; followed by division of nucleus into two; one of the nuclei moves into the new bud; which grows and develops into a new cell;
c)Sporulation in Rhizopus/ Mucor/ Mould;
-It reproduces asexually; by sporulation/ producing spores. Spores develop from a single cell in the sporangium; which burst on maturity releasing spores; which are dispersed by air currents/ wind; germinating to form new generation forming a mycelium; on landing on a suitable medium.
-Mushroom; reproduces asexually; by sporulation; spores develop in the gill; which bursts on maturity releasing spores; which are dispersed by air currents/ wind; germinating to form new generation forming a mycelium; on landing on a suitable medium.
